Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of University Baptist is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. UBC members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as to serving food at fellowships to things like missions days in New Orleans and the surrounding areas, where we serve others as Christ did and share the Gospel with them!

Mission Outreach

University Baptist is thrilled to be part of the spread of God’s kingdom around the world. We are active in supporting missionaries with our money and with our prayers. One of the missionaries we support currently lives in Pakistan, where Muslim is the prominent religion, and he is striving to spread the good news of the Gospel with everyone in his country. The other missionary we support currently resides in India where he battles the over-riding Hindu religion and seeks to share the Gospel with everyone there. In addition to the support of these men each year, a small team from our church travels to New Orleans three separate times to feed the homeless on the river front in New Orleans and provide service work and assistance to other organizations in the New Orleans area that might need our help. During the summer months we are also involved in local missions, some in Thibodaux, Lockport and the surrounding areas. Our main goal is provide people with their physical needs, while sharing the Gospel, which will meet their spiritual needs (just as we see Jesus did –

John 6:1-15

).  We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they move to a foreign country or live and minister in our own community. For more information about missions and outreach opportunities, or to get involved, contact ubc@ubcthibodaux.net.

Worship Team

God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music ministry. Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. Others are involved in the choir. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of UBC, using their talents and gifts to glorify God. If you are interested in finding out more information about our worship team, or to get involved today, contact Joel Fussell – jfussell@ubcthibodaux.net.

The usher team at University Baptist fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life. For more information on how you can become an active part of our usher team, contact ubc@ubcthibodaux.net.

Media & Technology

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of UBC. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. At each of our services we strive to use media in various different ways to help add to our services and be the best steward we possibly can of what we have been given. All of our weekly sermons are uploaded to our website in video and audio formats. We also maintain an active Facebook and Twitter feed for additional church communication. With that being said, we are constantly looking for volunteers to help us run sound during our services, as well as some to run powerpoint during our services as well. In addition we also be interested in talking to anyone who might have experience in maintaining websites (including facebook and twitter pages) and would be interested in doing so on a volunteer basis. For more information, or to volunteer for our in service media opportunities please contact Joel Fussell – jfussell@ubcthibodaux.net. For more information, or to volunteer to assist with our website media please contact ubc@ubcthibodaux.net.

Prayer Warriors

Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. University Baptist is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Each week we have a group of volunteers that is praying for the ministry of the Word at UBC and those who are in attendance. Throughout the week, volunteers to our Prayer Warriors team, pray for their pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs. Each Wednesday, the church comes together for a special time of prayer and Bible study. For more information about our prayer warriors, or to get involved, please contact ubc@ubcthibodaux.net.

Children’s Ministry

In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, UBC has three children’s ministry programs on any given week. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s ministry volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons. Our children’s ministry programs include children’s church, which occurs in conjunction with the 10:45am service on the first and third Sunday morning of each month, Kids Club for Christ, which occurs every Wednesday night at 6:30pm, and our AWANA’s ministry, which occurs every Sunday night at 5:30pm when school is in session. If you would like more information, or are interested in volunteering in any of our children’s ministry programs, please contact ubc@ubcthibodaux.net.

Student Ministry

At UBC we strive to give our students many different opportunities throughout the week to encounter God’s word in a way they can relate to and that they understand best. On any given week we have three student ministry programs where we try to approach them with God’s word in a different way and a different learning style, so that everyone will hopefully be getting feed in at least one way that best fits them and that they can really relate too. Throughout the week we offer Bible Study (Sunday mornings at 9:30am), Small Group studies with opportunities for discussion and searching through the Bible (Sunday nights at 5:30pm), and Student Worship with games, contemporary worship and a God inspired message (Wednesday nights at 6:30pm). Outside of our normal weekly opportunities we also have many events throughout the year we do in our student ministry. Some change from year to year, but we do have a few benchmarks that are consistent each year. Those benchmarks include our Disciple Now (occurring in November), Winter Retreat (occurring during Mardi Gras week), and Youth Camp (occurring in June or July). In our ministry we are constantly looking for volunteers to help out with all of our events, including our weekly meetings, and most of these volunteer positions do not require you to teach. If you are interested in finding out more information about how you can assist in our weekly meetings or be a chaperon on one of our upcoming student trips or events, please contact ubc@ubcthibodaux.net.
